Justice Democrats, the liberal organization responsible for bringing America far-left radicals such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley to Washington, has escalated its feud with the DNC. Senior Democrat leaders in the party have expressed concerns over the Justice Democrats radical plan to run against incumbent Democrats who refuse to move farther to the left and embrace Ocasio-Cortez’ brand of liberalism.
The issue fueling the Justice Democrats’ anger is the fact that the DNC’s official campaign arm, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), recently announced that it would not do business with consultants that work with candidates who intend to challenge incumbent Democrats in 2020 races.
You see Justice Democrats want to out Democrat moderates in 2020 and the Democrat national committee is saying hey wait a minute, hold up on that radical agenda. They know they could lose a lot of Congressional seats if all Democrats are forced to move even farther to the left.
The DCCC move would cut off important funding sources that insurgent candidates need in order to get a campaign off the ground, making it difficult for left-wing party members and organizations to unseat current Democrat members of Senate and the House of Representatives.
Given the fact that there is so much at stake, it is not hard to see why the Justice Democrats organization is furious and vowing to do something drastic. The organization has created a new website called “DCCC Blacklist” with a database of people and organizations that new, radical Democrat candidates can turn to for support.
Furthermore, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez told her nearly 4 million Twitter followers to stop giving money to the DNC and instead give it directly to battleground candidates. Justice Democrats, Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez defended their decision to encourage primary challengers within the party saying that the Democrat Party is meant to be more diverse than it currently is.
The National Political Director of The Indivisible Project, one of the many organizations that has taken sides with the Justice Democrats, took the issue one step further and accused the Democrat Party of being disproportionately male and white.
At the same time, the DCCC is not taking this division laying down; instead, it is going after progressive lawmakers and their cohorts by pointing out that Democrats at present have only a fragile majority in the House of Representatives. They say the party needs to invest in defeating Republicans if it hopes to regain more power and not unseating their own party.
DCCC’s announcement should come as a surprise to no one as it has been the committee’s informal policy for years to avoid working with people who want to unseat fellow Democrats. It is worth noting that Rep. Cheri Bustos, who is currently in charge of the DCCC, is also considered a leader among moderate Democrats.
The candidates that the Justice Democrats and their cohorts want to take down are all moderate Democrat politicians such as Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat representative from the state of Texas who has consistently voted against gun control and the use of federal funds for abortion. While the progressive wing of the party is crowing about diversity, its main priority seems to be replacing Democrat incumbents who don’t espouse the far-left ideology.
Naturally, GOP strategists, politicians and voters are watching the infighting in the Democrat Party with glee. If the divisions continue or get even worse, the odds are that President Trump will win a second term in 2020 and the House of Representatives may even revert back to Republican control at that time.
However, Justice Democrats and its radical cohorts in Congress like AOC do not seem to really care that the Democrats’ hold on power is threatened by its extreme move to the left on issues.
At the same time, the DCCC is far too concerned about maintaining the power it has and staying in the good graces of the incumbent candidates that it represents, many of whom work hard to raise money for the party.
Given the strong animosity between the two extremes in the Democrat Party, it is almost difficult to believe that the two organizations are actually members of the same party. However, they are and the feud is only likely to get worse as the Justice Democrats step up their efforts to remove incumbent Democrats they don’t think are progressive enough.
