Peter Buttigieg, otherwise known as Mayor Pete to progressives and the media who fawn all over him, is being presented to the American public as the paragon of virtue.
Mayor Pete doesn’t mind the label. In fact, he has cast himself as the true Christian as opposed to Vice President Mike Pence. The media loves to cast biblical believers like Pence as hateful extremists outside the mainstream and Buttigieg as the face of “modern” Christianity.
It is important to note that it is Mayor Pete who made his Christianity an issue, not Pence.
In many ways, Buttigieg is the epitome of the Middle America evangelical Bible-believing Christian politician. Even when they learn he is a far-left progressive homosexual in a same-sex marriage, many undecided, independent voters aren’t sure if they should support him or not.
As John Zmirak of the Stream.org writes voters are still trying to decide if Pete is “a sincere, if slightly misguided liberal Christian who simply loved the wrong person (a man) or whether the mayor is a very different breed of ferret.”
Since Mayor Pete seems to have burst on the scene from nowhere, it would be wise to learn a little about his background and what and who molded the way he thinks and governs.
In his recent past, Buttigieg vetoed a South Bend Common Council rezoning decision that would have allowed a pro-life crisis pregnancy center to open next door to a proposed abortion clinic. His explanation for the decision evaded his true stance on abortion on demand.
He told the South Bend Tribune, “Issues on the legality or morality of abortion are dramatically beyond my paygrade as a mayor … I don’t think it would be responsible to situate two groups, literally right next to each other, in a neighborhood, that have diametrically opposed views on the most divisive social issue of our time.”
That was in April 2018 but on August 6, 2019, Mayor Pete ramped up his support for a South Bend abortion provider with a history of health and safety violations. To deny the abortion clinic the right to remain open, according to Buttigieg, would encourage a “new and extreme assault on Roe v. Wade.”
Whole Woman’s Health of South Bend had been denied a license by the Indiana State Department of Health and Mayor Pete thought that to be a travesty. Apparently, it didn’t matter to this symbol of virtue that the chain of abortion clinics with seven locations in five states had committed dozens of safety and health violations in Texas between 2011 and 2017.
Some of the violations found in the three Texas facilities included inadequate sterilization of equipment, lack of a registered nurses on staff, and missing pharmaceutical drug stock.
The Indiana State Department of Health based its decision to deny the license due to a “failure to disclose information related to additional clinics” and a lack of “reputable and responsible character.”
South Bend has its own version of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell was the abortion doctor in Philadelphia who was convicted of murdering babies after botching their abortions. He routinely delivered babies alive during abortions, then cut their necks with scissors to kill them. He was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter of a woman during an abortion procedure.
Just recently we learned abortion doctor, Dr. Ulrich Klopfer, whose medical license was suspended in 2015 for failing to report an abortion on a 13-year-old girl, had a dark secret buried behind his home.
While relatives were going through his possessions, they stumbled across some remains. When authorities responded and searched his property they found the remains of 2,246 fetuses.
Just four years later, Mayor Pete seems more concerned about legalizing the killing of a child up to the moment of birth than the misdeeds done at South Bend’s only “Women’s Clinic.”
A spokesman for Buttigieg’s presidential campaign hailed his support of Whole Woman’s Health saying, “The South Bend clinic would be the only one for a radius of several counties.”
It’s interesting to note Whole Woman’s Health of South Bend would be South Bend’s only abortion clinic. The last one it had was The Women’s Pavilion, it shut down when Dr. Klopfer lost his license. Now, Mayor Pete supports another abortion clinic with a history of playing fast and loose with the law.
As Zmirak wrote for Stream.org: “The ‘mainstream,’ ‘compassionate’ Christianity that Buttigieg wants to impose … sticks up for corrupt … abortion clinics. The same kind that employ fetus-collecting ghouls like Doctor Klopfer, then get forced to a close. It bans pro-life pregnancy centers that offer women options to save their babies.”
Mayor Pete’s father was the leading authority on Antonio Gramsci, the father of cultural Marxism. Perhaps the apple falls closer to the tree than anyone realized.
